Our guide to dining out in Prague

Dining out in Prague will change depending on the time of year you visit. During the cooler Autumn and Winter seasons, you will spend time relaxing in cosy underground bars and pubs and traditional restaurants.

Summertime is a completely different affair where dining on a river terrace becomes a must-do during your trip to the city. Eating out in Prague is relatively cheap compared to western European prices and many restaurants and pubs will offer good value fixed-price menus during lunch.

Over the past few years, the number and range of restaurants offering International cuisine has grown, with many of the more avant garde offerings found in the downtown districts and in Vinohrady. Everything from Middle Eastern, Asian and Latino cuisine is now available.

Traditional Czech food tends to be quite heavy, but is also quite delicious, especially during the cooler months. Dishes such as Pork, dumplings and sauerkraut to classic goulash and schnitzel should be on everyone’s menu. And don’t forget to add some delicious Czech beer to wash it all down.

  • What to drink?

Speaking of Beer, taste some of the finest Czech Beers available including the Oilsner, Gambrinus and Bernard brands. Look out for “Tankové pivo signs” where you can find a fresh supply of delicious beer, kept in steel containers and shipped direct from the breweries daily. When it comes to wine, local white wines are recommended over reds.

  • What to tip?

Tipping is common, 10 percent is the norm and you normally tell your server to add it to the bill rather than leaving coins.
